📵 Important Reminder: New Law on Personal Devices in Schools
Dear West Babylon Families,
As per state law (Education Law 2803), student use of personal internet-enabled devices (e.g., smartphones, smartwatches) is prohibited during the school day — including during lunch, recess, and hallway transitions.
💡 Key Points (Education Law 2803, BOE Policy 5695, and prior parent letters):
- ❌ No personal device use during school hours
- 📲 K–5 students: Devices should remain home.
- 📲 6–12 students: Devices must be stored in lockers.
- 🚫 Devices used in violation will be confiscated.
- 💻 School-issued devices (Chromebooks) allowed for instructional purposes.
- ✅ Exceptions made for IEP/504 health plan needs - contact student services office
📞 Communication Supports:
- Students can use designated school phones to call home
- Families can contact the main office for urgent messages for their child(ren)
Thank you for your partnership.
With high regards,
Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly
Superintendent of Schools
West Babylon UFSD
