Soar Like An Eagle

Principal Welcome Letter

August 2026

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year! I hope that your children are eager and ready to start the new year. I have provided you with an outline of procedures, a district calendar, and other important information that I hope you will review with your child. Throughout the year you will receive messages mailed/emailed home or sent via our School Messenger telephone service and Parent Square. I would like to remind you that these messages may also be placed on the school website.

JHS Hours

Arrival: 7:27 A.M. | Dismissal: 2:25 P.M. | After school activity dismissal: 3:10 P.M.

No students are permitted to enter the building prior to 7:00 A.M unless participating in an approved school program. All students must leave @ 3:10 P.M. unless on a sports team. Students who are dropped off to school between 7:00 am and 7:40 am must be dropped off at the south east side of the building. Students who are dropped off at school after 7:50 am must be walked into the building by their parent/guardian.

After School

Please be aware that students can only stay after school if they are in a supervised activity. If students wish to attend a sporting event, they must leave school property, and can return at 3:30, when supervisors are scheduled to arrive. As there is no supervision from 3:10 to 3:30, no students, other than athletes actively practicing with a coach, can be in school or on the school grounds at that time.

Student Attendance

The West Babylon School District will enforce a state mandated attendance policy. Together we can maximize individual achievement and learning outcomes if we make sure students are in attendance every day. As per our district attendance policy, parents are required to call in their child's absences and send in parent or doctor notes for each absence. A doctor's note will be required after each absence indicating that your child is medically cleared to be in school.

Telephones

Students MAY NOT use cell phones during the school day for any reason. In the case of an emergency only, students can use the phone in the guidance office. If you need to contact your child at any time, please call the main office. Students should inform parents in advance if they are staying after school for an activity.

Parent Associations

  • PTA: Ms. Ana Galdamez will be our PTA President. Many worthwhile and beneficial goals were accomplished by the PTA this past school year. I urge all of you to join our PTA and become an active part of our school community.
  • SEPTA: Mrs. Adrianna Newell is our SEPTA President. SEPTA is a district wide Special Education PTA that offers resources, support, and advocacy. I urge all of you to join our SEPTA and become an active part of our school community.

Opening Day

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, your child will arrive for the first day of school! Kindly advise him/her of the following:

Upon entering the building, 6th grade students are to report to Eagle Hall to await instructions. All 7th and 8th grade students will report directly to a special first day homeroom identified by last name. First day homerooms will be sent out prior to the first day of school. All students will receive their schedules and locker assignments in homeroom on the first day of school.

Emergency Contact Information

Please update the emergency contact information on the parent portal. Be advised that only the adults, whom you have listed on the Parent Portal will be permitted to pick up your child during the school day. Exceptions cannot be made. As always, do not hesitate to list a cell phone if it is a regular line that we can use to contact you in the case of an emergency. Please remember that if any of your emergency information changes throughout the year you should immediately change your child's emergency information on the Parent Portal. As always, parents or guardians will need to show valid photo identification to sign out any student and to enter the building.

Student IDs

Every JHS student will be issued a photo ID.

  1. School ID's are to be worn to school ALL DAY/EVERYDAY. At any time students may be asked to present their ID to a staff member.
  2. Students who are late to school (any time after homeroom) will be asked to show student ID to staff at the front desk.
  3. School ID's are not to be given to friends, changed or altered in any way.
  4. School ID's are not to be taken from friends/students at any time.
  5. Lost IDs should be reported immediately to the Library. New ID's will be issued to the student as needed and they will be charged accordingly.

One-Two Hour Delayed Opening

Enclosed are the junior high procedures for a one hour and two hour delayed opening of school in the event of inclement weather or other emergency situations.

Lunch/Breakfast Program

The school offers a free and reduced lunch/breakfast program to eligible families that meet economic guidelines. If, for any reason, an eligible family does not want their children to participate in the free and reduced price lunch/breakfast program it is still necessary for the family to complete the application. Your completed application will allow our district to receive its fair share of federal aid, state aid and all appropriate grant money. In addition, this information will allow our school district to be compared to similar schools having the same economic backgrounds.

Student Organizer

When your child returns home from school on the first day, he/she will have a 2026-2027 Student Organizer. Please spend time with your child and review this organizer. Kindly sign your name in the space provided in the organizer to indicate that you have reviewed this information. Your child will be expected to bring the signed organizer to school on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Student Supplies

All of our student supplies lists are posted to our website to help parents purchase school supplies. If you choose to order supplies through our school store, they will be available to your child in homeroom on the first day of school.

Emergency Dismissal Procedure

Whenever early dismissals are utilized by the district, all junior high students (grades 6, 7 and 8) will be dismissed at the same time. Please instruct your child where to go (i.e., a relative or neighbor, if an Emergency Dismissal is warranted). Please explain to your child that they should immediately seek school personnel assistance if they are unsure where to go in the case of an emergency dismissal.

Information regarding school district closings or early dismissals due to inclement weather can be heard on the following stations: WNYG (1440 AM), WBAB (102.3 FM) and T.V. Channel 12 as well as on our website. We will also be using our automated phone system to notify parents of any emergency closing information.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our many junior high activities throughout the school year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Carlos Falcón

Principal
