At the end of March, five students from West Babylon High School competed in the annual Brookhaven Bridge Building contest. This contest is open to all high school students on Long Island and has engineers from Brookhaven National Laboratory testing the bridges. Top winners on Long Island move on to the international competition.

This year, 91 students from Suffolk and Nassau counties competed. This was the third year in which West Babylon has competed. Of the five West Babylon participants, two passed the specifications. Ninth grader James Graham placed 37th out of 91 bridges and 11th grader Rosalin Watras placed 67th out of 91 bridges. Congratulations to 11th graders Alex Burkhardt, John Gorzcynski and 10th grader Lindsey Kutchens for also submitting bridges in this year’s competition.
