By title, the responsibilities of this office are self explanatory. Relating to health and physical education, Mr. Spinelli works closely with the Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction (Mr. Payne) and the Director of Student Services (Mr. Mack) to see that all students are receiving an age level appropriate health and physical education program in line with NYS learning standards and the Board of Education policies. Additionally, the nurses and nurse teachers of the district are coordinated through this office. As the director, Mr. Spinelli directly supervises the K-5 and 9-12 programs and is assisted by the Chairperson of Health and Physical Education at the JHS school (Mrs. Richert) to implement curriculum guide to one of the most comprehensive programs in the state. In the area of intramurals, Mr. Spinelli coordinates with the building principals in overseeing the activities offered are representative of our physical education program. In the area of interscholastic sports, Mr. Spinelli works closely with the Director of Athletics (Mr. Howard) and the Executive Director of Human Resources (Mr. Hanley) to ensure that our interscholastic athletic program truly is an extension of our physical education program with the most qualified coaches. Mr. Spinelli also works closely with the Plant Facilities Administrator (Mr. Graziano) to provide the best possible fields and gymnasiums.

Mr. Spinelli came to West Babylon Schools in November 2003 as a junior high school Administrative Assistant and science teacher. He was the director of S.A.F.E (Student After-school Fun in Education) located at Santapogue Elementary School from September 2005 through June 2008 leading up to this position. Additionally he served as the principal of secondary summer school grades 6-12 in West Babylon for the 2007 and 2008 summers.

Mr. Spinelli started his college career on an athletic scholarship before transferring to SUNY Stony Brook and earning his B.S. in Biology. After a career on Wall Street, Mr. Spinelli returned to school to complete his M.S. in Education and Administrative Certification at Dowling College. He currently holds certifications in School District Administration, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science, General Science, Elementary Education N-6 and Physical Education. Prior to working in West Babylon, Mr. Spinelli has either taught and/or coached in Valley Stream Central High School District, Manhassett Secondary Schools, Elwood Middle School and Herricks Middle School. He is also been active as a high school official in Section VIII Football (LIAFO Member since '09), a baseball umpire with American Federation of Umpires (AFU- since '09) and in his home community of Massapequa as a volunteer fireman (member since 9/'86, department treasurer 4/'98-3/'09 ), St. Rose of Lima Executive Board Member (since '07) and coach (since '98), and Massapequa Coast Little League baseball coach ('98-'11).
