Members of the West Babylon School District community came together for a walk down memory lane during a ceremony at Forest Avenue Elementary School in June 16. School district administrators, former students and teachers, community members and current students and families gathered to reminisce about the memories made at Forest Avenue.

Lining the hallways were old photographs, class pictures and newspaper prints that featured Forest Avenue through the years. Current students also left notes with their favorite memories of their time at Forest. Gathered in the gymnasium, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly welcomed guests to the event. Students, former teachers and members of the PTA spoke about their favorite memories of the school.

Dr. Farrelly spoke about how Forest Avenue is more than just a building. “Forest is a place of laughter, learning, and lifelong memories, a place where childhoods unfolded and friendships took root,” she said. “As Forest transitions from an elementary school to a new purpose under the stewardship of Western Suffolk BOCES, we pause to reflect on the generations of students, teachers, parents, staff and faculty who have passed through its doors. Forest Avenue elementary school has always been a community within a community. Today, as we close this chapter, I'd like to say thank you. Thank you to every administrator and educator who inspired here at Forest. Thank you to every parent who gave their time, talent, and love to support Forest. Thank you to every student who walked these halls and left their mark. And thank you Forest Elementary School for 69 years of memories. So let us carry forward the values and friendships and cherished memories. Today's ceremony is a tribute, a celebration of a nod to what will continue in the legacy of Forest.”
