To recognize its students who exhibited exemplary performance in their academic subject areas, the Senior High School held its annual Principal’s Quality Achievement awards ceremony on May 23.

“All of our students receiving awards today have demonstrated phenomenal qualities in each of their studies,” said West Babylon Senior High School Principal Stephen O’Leary. “This is especially true given the events of the last few years.”

Class of 2016 West Babylon valedictorian and recent Harvard University graduate Alexander Barrett was the guest speaker for the event, sharing some of his fond memories of high school and imparting his words of wisdom on the honorees. “Take advantage of the opportunities you are given,” he said. “You will leave high school with a powerful skill set. You have a purpose; for some of you it will be college and for others it will be learning a trade. It’s a great opportunity to learn and explore what you can contribute to the world.”

Students from each of the different departments – art, business, family and consumer science, technology, English, world language, English as a New Language, health and physical education, mathematics, music, science, social studies and special education – were called to the stage one by one to receive their awards by the department chairperson. Leadership awards were presented to Liam Cain and Andre Pyatt and vocational education awards were given to Mikayla DeMaria and Kai Hyde.
