Custodian Mike Kuffo has been hard at work beautifying the elementary schools in the district with his artwork. He has been creating murals on the walls of the school buildings on his own time and weekends. In December, Mr. Kuffo created a mural at Forest Avenue Elementary School. In January, he began work at the entranceway to the library at John F. Kennedy Elementary School. To promote literacy and create a welcoming environment at the library’s entrance, the mural highlights children’s books and enhances the school’s environment. Mr. Kuffo invited teachers and staff members to write their names on the different book jackets featured on the mural. His goal, he said, is to create these murals at every elementary school, working with the respective school principals to capture their particular school culture.
