Eighteen student-musicians from the West Babylon School District were chosen to perform at the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association All-County honors ensembles. Students are nominated by their music teachers and chosen by a SCMEA selection committee based on their outstanding performance in school music programs, as well as in local NYSSMA solo festivals.

The West Babylon student-musicians will join the ranks of the county’s finest orchestra, chorus and band musicians for rehearsals and performances during two weekends in March.

Each year, thousands of students are nominated for SCMEA All-County. Due to limitations related to COVID-19, only 90 students per ensemble were selected for each SCMEA divisional music festival this year. Congratulations to the following students: Selena Barahona (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 6, chorus); Matthew Cella (West Babylon Senior High School, grade 10, band); Sarah Coffey (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 8, orchestra); Mikayla Desroches (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 8, chorus); Scarlett Farrell (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 6, chorus); Nolan Graham (West Babylon Senior High School, grade 9, band); Christopher Izzo (West Babylon Senior High School, grade 9, band); Melanie Jastrzebski (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 8, band); Leanna Kohan (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 6, chorus); Xiang Xi Lin (West Babylon Senior High School, grade 10, orchestra); Anthony Mastrangelo (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 8, chorus); Kirra Murphy (West Babylon Senior High School, grade 10, chorus); Brooke-Lynn Murray (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 8, band); Serena Schmitt (West Babylon Junior High School, grade 8, orchestra); Sayoni Taylor (Santapogue Elementary School, grade 5, chorus); Alba Villanueva (Santapogue Elementary School, grade 5, chorus); Kyra Walter (West Babylon Senior High School, grade 10, band); and Janelle Wheeler-Benbadri (South Bay Elementary School, grade 5, orchestra).
