Students at South Bay Elementary School recently learned about compassion, service and helping others during a special assembly featuring Paws of War on Sept. 14.

The organization visited the school to introduce students to its mission and highlight the many programs it offers to support veterans, active-duty military members, first responders and animals in need. Students learned about the many ways Paws of War works to make a difference in the lives of both people and animals.

A highlight of the assembly was the opportunity for students to meet two special four-legged guests, Scooby Doo and Lucy. The canines helped bring the organization's message to life and quickly became a favorite part of the presentation.

At the conclusion of the program, students had the chance to meet Scooby Doo and Lucy up close and pet the friendly dogs. The assembly provided students with an engaging way to learn about community service, kindness and the importance of helping those in need, while also creating a memorable experience with some very special guests.
