Science Comes to Life in West Babylon

Students across West Babylon School District are bringing science concepts to life through engaging, hands-on learning experiences in both high school and junior high classrooms.
At West Babylon Senior High School, Advanced Placement Biology students in Ms. Durbin’s class are exploring sustainability and plant science by learning how to regrow crops using recycled scraps from fruits and vegetables. Through the activity, students are gaining a deeper understanding of plant growth, environmental responsibility and sustainable practices while observing the regrowth process firsthand.
Meanwhile, at West Babylon Junior High School, Regents Earth Science students are applying scientific inquiry skills as they complete laboratory assessments focused on measuring gas, pressure and the density of various blocks. Using data collection, calculations and observation, students are strengthening their understanding of key earth science concepts through hands-on experimentation. These interactive lessons provide students with meaningful opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in practical ways while developing critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.
