West Babylon School District’s summer school program ended with a lesson on the fascinating world of octopuses with Ms. Ingrid.

Following their lesson, students put their creativity to work by creating their own octopus-inspired projects while practicing important fine motor and scissor skills. Each grade level took a unique approach to the activity, allowing students to create age-appropriate projects while strengthening coordination, dexterity and creativity.

Kindergarten and first grade students created colorful octopuses with beaded arms, while students in grades 2–5 designed paper octopuses. Students in grades 5–8 took on a more intricate project, creating woven octopuses.

Through cutting, threading, weaving and assembling, students combined hands-on creativity with skill building as they brought their ocean creatures to life. The library activity was another opportunity for students to learn, create and explore throughout the summer program.
