Students Discover the Power of Words Through Art

West Babylon School District students in grades 5-8 put a creative spin on language during a recent library lesson with Ms. Ingrid. Students learned about onomatopoeia, words that imitate or suggest the sounds they describe, and explored how artists can combine words and images to create a powerful visual message.
Taking inspiration from the bold, colorful artwork of Roy Lichtenstein, students then created their own words and designs in the style of pop art. Using expressive lettering, bright colors and comic book inspired imagery, they transformed everyday sounds into eye-catching works of art. The activity encouraged students to explore the connection between language and visual expression while developing their creativity and artistic skills.
