Eighth Grade Artists on Display

West Babylon Junior High School artwork created by eighth grade students is currently on display at the West Babylon Public Library throughout June. The exhibit, located in the children’s area, is part of an ongoing collaboration between the West Babylon art department and the West Babylon Public Library to celebrate student creativity and promote the importance of the arts throughout the school and local community.
The featured artwork comes from the eighth grade Color Wheel Challenge project, where students applied their knowledge of color theory to create original pieces of art. Students selected a theme for their artwork, such as animated characters, food, flowers and more, and represented each section of the color wheel through their chosen concept.
As part of the challenge, students were provided only the primary colors and used their understanding of color mixing to create secondary and tertiary colors. They explored concepts including tints, shades and value by incorporating variations of light and dark within each section of their designs.
Through this project, students developed their artistic skills while learning how color, creativity and design work together to create unity and visual impact. The district congratulates these young artists and thanks the West Babylon Public Library for helping showcase student talent and strengthen the connection between the schools and the community.
