Book Donations Help Foster a Love of Reading at JHS

Students in Mrs. Shaw’s reading classes and Mrs. Groel’s English classes at West Babylon Junior High School recently participated in a special “Book Fair Day,” giving students the opportunity to explore and take home free books while fostering a love of reading.
Thanks to generous donations from colleagues in both current and former districts, along with support from nonprofit organization The Book Fairies, more than 200 books were collected and displayed throughout the classroom for students to browse and select from at no cost.
During the event, students spent time chatting with classmates, exploring different genres and choosing books that matched their interests. After selecting their books, they enjoyed independent reading time before participating in a class discussion about the titles they chose and what drew them to those stories. The experience not only encouraged literacy and independent reading but also helped students build excitement around books and reading in a welcoming and engaging environment.
The district extends its gratitude to The Book Fairies for their continued support and for helping provide meaningful opportunities for students to build their home libraries and strengthen their love of reading.
