West Babylon Unveils New Electronic Message Board

On April 30, the West Babylon School District unveiled its new electronic message board outside the high school, made possible through the generous support of the West Babylon Alumni Foundation and Assemblyman Michael Durso. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked a significant milestone for the district, celebrating both innovation and the power of community partnership.
The new state-of-the-art message board will serve as a vital communication tool, keeping students, families and the broader community informed about school events, achievements and important updates.
Superintendent Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly remarked about the significance of the moment, stating, “Today, we celebrate far more than a new electronic message board. We celebrate partnership. We celebrate persistence. We celebrate the power of a community that always shows up for schools.”
Dr. Farrelly also expressed gratitude to the many contributors who made the project possible, including the board of education, district administration, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Assemblyman Durso and the Alumni Foundation. She noted that the previous sign had been in use for many years and was no longer sustainable due to outdated technology and unavailable parts.
“In true West Babylon fashion, the community stepped in,” she said. “This message board is much more than a sign — it is a critical communication tool for our families, students and community.”
West Babylon Senior High School Principal Steve O’Leary echoed those sentiments, highlighting the impact the new board will have on the school community. “So many people rely on this sign to stay informed about what’s happening at the high school and throughout the district,” he said. “We’re excited to use its new features to showcase student achievements and share important information in a meaningful way.”
Alumni Foundation President Ralph Rienzo spoke about the collaborative effort behind the project and the organization’s continued commitment to the district. “We talked about this for a while and decided it was time to move forward,” he said. “We’re proud to support West Babylon and look forward to continuing to help our students and schools.”
Assemblyman Durso also expressed his appreciation for the community and his role in the project. “West Babylon is such a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family,” he said. “I’m proud to represent this community and grateful to be a small part of something that will benefit students and families for years to come.”
Thanks to the strong collaboration between community partners and the district, the new electronic message board stands as a lasting symbol of pride, partnership and progress in West Babylon.
