West Babylon Celebrates Global Day of Play

On Feb. 4, students across the West Baylon School District participated in Global Day of Play, a worldwide event that encourages them to engage in unstructured, screen-free play.
Global Day of Play is designed to highlight the importance of play in child development. Throughout the day, students put aside traditional lessons and technology to take part in hands-on, creative and cooperative activities. Classrooms were transformed into areas for building, creating, imagining and problem solving.
Students participated in a variety of activities including board games, building challenges, art projects, physical games and imaginative play. The goal of the day was to allow students to explore, collaborate and learn through play while developing important social, emotional and critical thinking skills.
The district’s participation in Global Day of Play reflects its commitment to supporting the whole child by balancing academic learning with opportunities for creativity, movement and social interaction.
