JFK Artists Show off their Creative Sides

The artwork on first, third and fourth graders from John F. Kennedy Elementary School is currently on display in the West Babylon Public Library. The artwork is featured in the children’s area in February as part of a collaboration between the West Babylon art department and the West Babylon Public Library to help promote the arts in the schools and in the community.
Under the direction of their art teacher Janice Dougherty, first grade art classes created whimsical winter trees. Artists used paper to create a variety of stylized trees, along with color-diffusing tissue paper to create a warm- or cool-colored sky. Third grade artists created patterned hot chocolate mugs, a mixed media composition with oil pastels for their line and shape patterns along with watercolor for their backgrounds and mugs. Fourth grade student artists created mountainscapes inspired by artist Jen Aranyi. Students created analogous colored skies using watercolor paints to contrast with the white mountainscapes.
