Kindergartners Learn About Legacy of Dr. King

Kindergarten students in Ms. Costanza’s class at John F. Kennedy Elementary School are learning about the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through age-appropriate lessons focused on peace, kindness and understanding. After watching a short video about Dr. King’s message, students engaged in a thoughtful discussion about what peace means to them. Students brainstormed ways they experience peace in their own lives and how they can extend that sentiment to others at school, at home and in their community. Each student then expressed their ideas by writing about peace and creating a drawing to represent their thoughts. This meaningful activity helped kindergartners connect Dr. King’s legacy to their own lives, encouraging empathy, reflection and positive actions at an early age.
