Tooker Students Explore Hands-On Lessons in Hour of AI

In December, students at Tooker Avenue Elementary School took part in the global Hour of AI initiative, formerly known as the Hour of Code. This annual worldwide event is incorporated into the district’s library curriculum and provides students with hands-on opportunities to explore computer science and artificial intelligence.
According to CSforALL, the nonprofit organization spearheading Hour of AI along with Code.org, the goal of the initiative is for all students to “become confident, creative problem-solvers — using AI and building it.” Throughout the experience, Tooker students engaged in a variety of unplugged and plugged coding activities designed to build critical thinking skills and deepen their understanding of how artificial intelligence and computer science are parts of everyday life.
By actively participating in these interactive lessons, students learned how technology can be used to solve problems, to think creatively and to better understand the digital world around them. Upon completing the Hour of AI activities and meeting their coding goals, they proudly earned certificates and stickers to celebrate their accomplishments.
The Hour of AI initiative supports West Babylon’s commitment to fostering innovation, digital literacy and problem-solving skills in all learners.
