On March 15-16, West Babylon School District’s Science Olympiad team traveled to Syracuse for the Science Olympiad State Tournament. The largest in the country, New York’s State Tournament had 60 schools from throughout New York representing some of the best STEM students in the state. Qualifying for the tournament is always a goal for West Babylon and improving their results each year is something they strive for. This year, Logan Iversen and Alex Burkhardt received a ninth place medal in Wind Power, representing West Babylon’s first state medal since 2018. Iversen and Burkhardt not only took an exam in renewable energy with a focus on wind power, but also designed and tested a wind turbine that generated electricity.
