As a culminating activity to their unit on influential young people, the fifth graders in Ms. DeGennaro’s class at John F. Kennedy Elementary School created their own windmills. The project was inspired by William Kamkwamba. He was a young boy who built a wind turbine to save his Malawian village from famine. He is most commonly known as the boy who harnessed the wind. The students tested their windmill creations and see how they each functioned.
