I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Principal of the Tooker Avenue Elementary School. My name is Charles Germano, and it is both an honor and privilege to be starting my 14th school year as the principal of this exceptional school. Tooker enjoys a rich history of academic and cultural excellence that is the result of a partnership between the staff and parents. It is truly a great school, where families and teachers work closely together to support and educate each and every student. I feel that my responsibility as the principal of this fine school is to ensure that all students receive a quality education within a safe, respectful, caring, and challenging learning environment. I know that the entire staff at Tooker shares this same focus. I also strongly believe in the home/school connection, and I welcome the opportunity to meet all of you personally. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you may have. I look forward to working with you and your children throughout this school year.

I would like to share some information about my professional experiences that have led to my appointment as the Tooker Principal. This will be my 27th year working for West Babylon Schools, and I have a great deal of experience in a variety of areas. I actually started my career at the Tooker Avenue Elementary School as a student teacher back in 1997. Since then, I have held the following positions: Elementary School Teacher (8 years), Junior High School Science Teacher (1 year), JHS Administrative Assistant (1 year), Soccer/Tennis coach (12 years), and Elementary Summer School Principal (2 summers). I also worked as the Coordinator of K-12 Student Data & Instructional Technology for West Babylon for 5 school years. In this challenging district level administrative position, I was responsible for all aspects of the technology department and served as West Babylon’s Chief Information Officer. All of these experiences have allowed me to work very closely over the years with our District’s Central Administration, building principals, teachers, support staff, parents, students, and the Board of Education. I have learned a great deal in my career, and I use this experience daily in all of my professional endeavors.

My greatest initiative is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that provides rigorous but thoughtful instruction to meet the needs of each student in our school. My staff and I will also strive to provide a balanced educational program that ensures the academic and social/emotional learning success of our students. Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role in encouraging our students to become life-long, active learners. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students so that they can acquire the necessary skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society.

As a parent of a 24 year old son and 21 year old daughter, I am very familiar with all of the societal and academic challenges that our children are faced with. I can assure you that I will work tirelessly with the staff at Tooker to constantly look for ways to provide our students with an effective, fun, compassionate, and rewarding learning experience. I am confident that together we can continue to make our school a great place for our students to learn and grow.
