Fifth graders in Suzanne Cardone’s class at John F. Kennedy Elementary School spent their social studies lesson on Patriot Day learning about Sept. 11. Students worked in tiered groups to read a differentiated passage about 9/11. The students discussed and annotated the importance of content specific vocabulary, dates, times and information. They used a question guide to select four subheadings in which they used information from the passage to create a pennant that can teach others about the events of Sept. 11.
