At the conclusion of their literacy unit, which focused on nonfiction texts, Mrs. Shah's 5th graders presented their biographies. Over the course of the past few weeks, students developed a research plan, gathered numerous sources of information (books, primary sources, multimedia, computer sources, etc.), and worked collaboratively to learn and expand on important moments in their chosen persons' life. "Research clubs" met daily to work towards the end goal of using nonfiction texts to increase our own knowledge and understanding, and the learning of others. Students used their research, posters, props and public speaking skills to present to 4th, 3rd, and 2nd graders as well as other Forest Avenue staff guests.
