Junior High School students participated in the Hour of Code activities throughout the week of Dec. 7. The activities reinforced concepts taught in other subject areas by integrating math, English language arts, science and technology standards. Students spent more than two hours in the computer lab engaging in the tasks and writing code in a language called Java Script. The code enabled students to control the characters’ actions through increasingly difficult tasks. Students had to analyze, problem solve, use their creativity and collaborate with each other to be successful.
Several students were so inspired by the experience they have begun the 20-hour after-school course.
The Hour of Code is a nationwide program designed to introduce students to the world of computer sciences and is sponsored by companies like Microsoft and Apple.
