High school students Carolyn Armstrong and Louis Mazza will advance to the regional Poetry Out Loud competition at SUNY Stony Brook on Feb. 26.

The 10th annual Poetry Out Loud competition is a national recitation contest in which students recite at least two poems starting at the school level. After the regional competition, winners advance to the state level and then national finals in Washington, D.C. More than 7,300 schools and 2.5 million students participate in the contest annually.

During the Poetry Out Loud contest, a student’s performance is judged on physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, level of complexity, evidence of understanding, overall performance and accuracy.

The district congratulates Carolyn and Louis on this academic accomplishment and best wishes for success in the regional competition.
