The Senior High School’s Science Olympiad team competed in virtual regional event on March 20. Science Olympiad is a national competition that involves high schools from all 50 states. Typically, teams would begin preparing for 25 events that involve building devices, such as robots and airplanes and being tested in events like astronomy and forensics. This year, the competitions were held remotely.
Forty-three schools competed in the Suffolk County regionals in 15 online events. Though most of these teams had begun preparing since October, West Babylon only had a week and a half to prepare, when clubs were once again allowed to meet. West Babylon’s regional team succeeded in medaling in three of the 15 events. Congratulations to Ryan Marvin and Arsh Maklai, third place in machines; Natalia Niebrzydowski and Dakota Mule, eighth place in ornithology, and Camilo Brown-Pinilla and Michael Alexiadis, fourth place in sounds of music.
