First graders in Lisa DeGennaro’s class at John F. Kennedy Elementary School are learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream of everyone being treated equally. The class read “The Crayon Box That Talked” by Shane Derolf. In the story, the crayons did not get along because they all looked different. However, when they worked together, they created a beautiful picture. The class created their own crayon box to display and wrote about how although they all look different, they can create a beautiful picture when they work together.
