Football Superstars

Track guys enjoy playing football occasionally; Three hand touch is a rigorous game played by mature athletes willing to put their body on the line for victory. Its great to see individual athletes forced to play together in aggressive team competition.

Its not fun to single out people , but this season there are a few gentlemen that have set the bar much higher than their peers.... playing impressive offense /defense. See attached pages to learn more about these superstars.

John Nash
Just too fasst to cover on offesne and by far is the best special teams weapon in the league. He throws his body out there, and looks for contact. Could be the best player in the league if he could become a dominant QB.Teams are constantly throwing away from Nash concerned about the negative pick 6 scenario.

Jake Hatzfeld
You can't teach height, and Hatzfeld uses his height and lanky body frame to pick off passes and bring in receptions with ease. His speed is nothing special, but he gets open fast, and doesn't drop a pass. As a OB he is strong using all receivers in short yard situations. He scoops up kick-offs cleanly and gives his team great field positioning. He throws his body around and in one play jumped on the back of Bryan Mullen for 23 yards until taking him down. He is deceptively good, and one could only imagine how much he would shine with true receivers on his squad.

Mr. Frank Joseph Sebastian Ging I
In the season opener, Frank Ging was on fire rotating in at QB; hitting Sticky fingers Hatzfeld several times for TD's and receiving 2 touchdown passes, both from Hatzfeld. Two sacks and one fumble recovery were stats defensively that would normally secure MVP honors but fell short of his teammates impressive debut. Ging was less succesful in his 2nd outing getting picked off 2 times in the Championship, but still recording TD passes and receing TD's to keep his team in the hunt for season perfection. Although he is chubby, he still runs strong routs and enjoys get  hit by athletes half his age.

Varsity Winter Track History

The West Babylon Boy's Winter Track team received distinct honors in 1975 & 1976 winning the County Championship in consecutive years. The program was faded out in the the 80's but returned in 1990 when current coach, Frank Ging, ran as a independent competitor for West Babylon with our neighbors in Babylon. The following year, the Winter Program was restored an included a boy's & girl's team coached by Vincent Nello. Coach Rossi added his years of experience to a program in need, and continued to mold athletes and coaches both on the girls and guys squads. His most recent success came from the accomplishment of ALL-AMERICAN Pentathlete Lionel Fontaine, County Champion ( 600 m) Cody Amengual, County Finalist and State Championship Pentathlete Jean Fontaine & Nick Carboni State Championship Long Jumper. In his tenure at West Babylon, Individual records have fallen, and wide spread recognition has been obtained at meets at the "Armory", "Yale", "Ichan Stadium", and "Penn Relays".

Coach Rossi has taken his talents back to his home school, Babylon and West Babylon is trying to continue the tradition. Coach Ging, Coach Rossi's Assistant, took over the Winter program and had 2 athletes perform in at the State Qualifier; Jame D'Onofrio and Brendan Kennedy. Coach Ging continues to educate his athletes and push them to perform well and re-establish what took years for Coach Rossi to create.

Alumni Running Data
Many of West Babylon's dedicated runners become life long runners, competing Inter-Collegiately; Intramurally, and Recreationally. Its common to see the same names on the top of leader boards across the County / Island / State and occasionally on the Nationlly level. Our goal is to incorporate a running record of many of our former runners personal bests on the Track / Cross Country courses & Road Runs. Please feel free to email me with information that can be added  next to your name, , include the year you graduated from WB, the date of your performance and the location. As the years pass the older guys will always tell you the time they broke 11, seconds in the 100 meters, or the time they went sub 50 in the 400. We keep in touch with many of the guys and believe it or not guys recall the faster times on the team. The mid 70's were strong and the records are still archived/preserved on a stat board. Statistics from the 80's to 90, were misplaced or poorly organized, but with help of County Coaches, former coaches, alumni and school yearbooks were able to create the tops times with data we could confirm. Coach Rossi kept detailed data throughout his tenure and has passed the information along to me. I will continue to ensure that your times remain in their correct position until an athlete deserves to de-thrown you. Distance runners; be glad Michael Nehr and Cody Amengual waited until college to light up the track and cross country courses.
