Staff and students at the JHS dressed in the school colors of Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS or West Babylon school colors to commemorate the lives lost in the Florida school shooting. Seventeen separate moments of silence were conducted throughout the day and students engaged in conversation about 17 things (#my17) they could do or say to create a more positive atmosphere in the building. A banner was also hung outside the cafeteria with the message "#WeAreOne" and students voluntarily wrote messages that address school safety.
