REQUIRED Written Reader's Response - Grades 9-12

n

For the "free choice" book, students will be required to write 1 in-class, extended paragraph, a written Reader's Response, of 150 during the week of September 24, 2012. Before this date, the 2012-13 English teachers will provide explicit instructions on how to craft a well-written extended paragraph based on one of the five competencies of SEAL on the district website.

Below you will find a sample prompt that you can draft a short response as practice during the summer. The prompt below is only a sample and cannot be handed in as the required Reader's Response, but may be submitted to your English teacher for his/her review before September 24, 2012.

Sample Written Reader’s Response Prompt for Grades 9-12

Relationship skills are essential in all aspects of life.  The way we listen, speak, and demonstrate respect for others is imperative.  Traits such as trust and honesty are necessary if we are to become respectable people.   In the book you’ve read, did the main character exhibit his/her ability to make and maintain healthy relationships?  Identify which attributes of good relationship skills he/she did or did not demonstrate as the story progresses.
