South Bay Elementary School Principal Christina Cotter

I am honored to serve the West Babylon community as South Bay Elementary School’s Principal. I am grateful to have the privilege to work with the students and families at South Bay to continue the tradition of outstanding West Babylon education.

The 2023-2024 school year will be my 20th year working as an educator. I started my career in 2004 at Public School 171 in Queens, New York as a 2nd Grade Special Education teacher. It was there that I realized my passion for working with elementary-age students, our youngest and most curious learners! After eight years of teaching, I moved into the roles of Literacy Coordinator and Academic Director. Before coming to South Bay in 2018, I spent three years working as a Principal in a K-8 school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. This year will be my sixth year working as the proud Principal of South Bay Elementary School here in West Babylon!

In my time away from school, I love to be outside with my wonderful husband Andres and my amazing daughters Grace, 6 and Ella, 4. The girls keep us very busy, but in my moments of free time I enjoy reading, cooking, and running.  As my girls are both elementary age, Grace in 1st grade and Ella starting UPK this year, I am fully immersed in the elementary education world, both as an educator and a mom. I know firsthand the partnership between school and families that is required to support our children.

The South Bay community is a uniquely special place. Staff and teachers work collaboratively and cohesively to meet the needs of all children. Parents and families partner with school staff to best support children in and out of the classroom. I look forward to working alongside teachers, staff, and families to continue this important work in service of all of our South Bay students. I look forward to a positive 2023-2024 school year!

Sincerely,
