The foster grandparents who volunteer in the classrooms at John F. Kennedy Elementary School are making a big impact on the students and vice versa. As part of the Foster Grandparents program, seniors are matched with schools in their area, where they spend time working with students and making connections. Students are able to get one-on-one time with a foster grandparent, giving them the extra boost they need to succeed in school.

John F. Kennedy Elementary School currently has four foster grandparents placed in classrooms. Some volunteer for a few hours per day while others spend the whole school day with the students. In recognition of their ongoing volunteer efforts, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Town of Babylon Councilman Tony Martinez visited the school on April 10 to thank the volunteers for their service, tour the classrooms and witness the connections they are making with the students everyday.
