Students in Kelly DeCarlo’s fifth-grade class at South Bay have been working diligently on their group presentations about three native peoples – the Haida, the Adena Mound Builders and the Taino.

The students’ goal was to become experts on the topic they researched. They presented their reports to the class, two visiting teachers and Principal JoAnn Scott on Dec. 15. They were able to explain many interesting facts and details about the history, traditions and culture of each native people and were able to answer a wide range of questions from the audience.

The students designed their own presentation posters, which included illustrations, maps and drawings.
