In the novel "Wonder" by RJ Palacio, a teacher named Mr. Browne begins each month with a lesson on precepts. Mr. Brown informs the kids that precepts are "words to live by." Mr. Browne’s Precept for the month of September is: “If you have the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” It’s a quote by Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Our class discussed this precept. The students then selected their own personal precepts. Each student displayed their precept on their desk with a dry-erase marker. We then did a gallery walk around the room to read each other's precepts. It was a worthwhile experience that allowed the students to share and reflect on how their precept fit in with the book we are reading and in their own personal lives.
