Historic Finish for Girls Winter Track

The girls varsity winter track team placed fifth out of 24 teams in the small school county championships on Jan. 31, earning a total of 35 points. West Babylon’s fifth-place finish is the best in the winter season history. West Babylon had athletes participate in 10 of the 15 fielded events.

Some of the highlights from the event included:

•    Brittany Korsah – Third place in the 55m dash (7.50: new school record) and first in the 300m, setting a new small school county championship record of 41.41 seconds
•    Paige Keefer – Second place in the 600m sprint (1:38.38)
•    Myaysa Evans – Sixth place in the long jump (16 feet, 7 inches)
•    4 x 800 meter relay – Fifth place, consisting of Lindsay Siefert, Nadine Keefer, Noela Franco, and Tara Hauff (10:18.41), bested their season record and set a new school record (winter and spring)
•    4 x 400 meter relay – Second place, consisting of Brittany Korsah, Nadja Ashley, Dana Beggins and Paige Keefer (4:07.65)

Next up for the Eagles is the State Championship Qualifier meet on Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood.
