Updated Message from Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly, Superintendent of Schools

Please be aware the incident which caused an evacuation and an early dismissal at West Babylon Senior High School is currently under investigation by law enforcement authorities. Although this matter is still under investigation, the police have deemed the building safe for students and staff to return to school. We have been advised that there is no threat to the well-being of our students and staff.

Tomorrow all high school students should report to school by 9:30 am. Students who receive transportation should report to their bus stop at 9:10 am.  All students must enter through the high school main entrance. AM tech students will remain at the High School and not attend their tech program. Full day alternative high school students will be transported to their program at 9:30 am. A meeting will be held with HS employees prior to student arrival.

The health and safety of our students and staff is our utmost concern. We want to assure you that today’s incident has no connection to the school – related threats today in New York City and Los Angeles, of  which some community members have expressed concern. The district will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available from the authorities. I’d like to thank the administration, HS staff, faculty and students for their prompt and professional responses.

The West Babylon Senior High School will be dismissing students at approximately 12:30 p.m. An odor was detected in the hallway, students were evacuated and the fire department was called. We are unsure when we will get clearance to re-enter the building. Transportation will be bringing students who take a bus home and walkers will be released.  Please do not attempt to pick up your child as much of Route 109 in front of the HS is blocked off. We will provide an update later today.

If your child should experience any symptoms, please seek medical attention and notify the school nurse tomorrow.

We will update you as soon as we have more information.
