During No Name Calling Week, Forest Avenue students focused on building character through various school activities.
There were classroom discussions on being an upstander and not a bystander, based on their reading of Carol McCloud’s “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids.” To emphasize the fact that everyone is unique, the students also wore different socks to school. In addition, students created a schoolwide unity chain to symbolize their connection to each other and their commitment to igniting a chain reaction of kindness. The week ended with a designated Upstander Day, in which students shared kind words through compliment cards and read Dr. Lisa Roth’s “Stand Up.”
