West Babylon School District Capital Project Bond Vote: Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015

On Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, community residents of the West Babylon School District will have an opportunity to vote on a proposed Capital Project Bond Referendum. Voting will take place from  7 a.m. – 9 p.m. at regular voting locations. Residents south of Sunrise Highway can vote at the district’s administration building located at 10 Farmingdale Road, West Babylon. Residents living north of Sunrise Highway can vote at Santapogue Elementary School located at 1130 Herzel Boulevard, West Babylon.

The bond referendum proposes capital projects totaling $29,935,754. The district anticipates receiving 64.6 percent in New York State building aid, thereby significantly reducing the cost to district taxpayers, who will be paying 35.4 percent of the total cost. It is anticipated that the cost to the average homeowner will be approximately $96 per year or $8 per month.

If approved, the bond referendum will fund major repairs and renovations districtwide that cannot be included in the district’s annual budget. It will also bring facilities into the 21st century to support the district’s more rigorous New York State-mandated Common Core Learning Standards curriculum. The proposed scope of work addresses the core infrastructure of the district’s facilities including refurbishment of roofs, repairing and renovating bathrooms, floors, ceilings, electrical and heating systems, interior and exterior lighting, window glazing, athletic fields, locker rooms, parking lots, curbs and sidewalks. For additional information regarding the proposed capital project bond referendum, visit the district’s website at www.wbschools.org.

All residents play an important role in the district’s future. Please plan to vote on Tuesday, January 13, 2015.
