Santapogue Elementary School students observed Patriot Day by engaging in patriotic classroom activities.
Teachers held class discussions about being an American and had students read books and write essays about U.S. history. Many students were instructed to draw and color pictures of the American flag after a relevant lesson.
Observed annually on Sept. 11, Patriot Day serves to remember those who were injured or killed during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Although the event took place before the students were born, many schools take the opportunity on that day to study patriotic symbols and learn about the nation’s history.
