Sixty-nine students in grades 1-5 were honored today at South Bay School's Congratulations Celebration, for their participation in the district's optional summer reading and summer math activities. Eight students were recognized as South Bay Math Stars for completing at least five hours of math practice during the summer on the IXL math website. Twenty-five students were recognized as South Bay Reading Stars for having read at least ten books during the summer, and handing in a completed book log. Thirty-six students were recognized as South Bay Reading and Math Superstars for accomplishing both of these goals -- reading at least 10 books and doing at least five hours of IXL math practice. All sixty-nine students received certificates and a coupon for a free treat at a local eatery. The students' names are posted on three honorary scrolls on display in the South Bay lobby. In addition, 53 South Bay students took home certificates today for logging at least two books as part of the West Babylon Public Library's Fizz! Boom! Read! summer reading club.
