Sixth-grade students Bella Alvino and Jamie Cozzi recently introduced a variation of the Butterfly Project to West Babylon Junior High School students. The Butterfly Project was an initiative initially established to support self-harmers, however, the West Babylon students have put an anti-bullying spin on it.

The girls met with the school’s administration and discussed the initiative in which the members of the school’s Anti-Bullying Club placed Post-it notes with positive messages on each students’ locker in hopes of creating a culture of kindness throughout the school.

“Every butterfly has beautiful and unique wings but can’t see them,” said Jamie. “It’s the same with each student in the school. They all have something beautiful about them and sometimes they just can’t see it. We wanted to remind them that they are unique and special.”
